On June 22, 2025, Texas joined a small group of states, including Colorado and Utah, in passing one of the first broad, cross-sector AI governance laws with the signing of H.B. 149, the Texas Responsible Artificial Intelligence Governance Act (TRAIGA). While other states like New York, California, and Illinois have enacted more limited or sector-specific AI regulations, TRAIGA is notable for its scope across both public and private sectors. While this law represents a significant milestone in defining responsible AI governance, it also serves as something else for Ambient.ai: a powerful validation of an approach we’ve followed since day one.
At its core, TRAIGA affirms what we’ve always believed to be true - security can be effective without compromising privacy. - Updates Texas’s biometric privacy statute (CUBI) to create explicit exemptions for AI systems used in public safety or security contexts.
- Defines boundaries for training AI models on biometric or publicly available image data.
